Summary

The Director of New Media works under the supervision and direction of the Head of New Media. He/she is responsible for managing all aspects of new media and social media as it relates to the organization’s diversified TV, Radio, Wireless and online presence.

This person should be a results-oriented individual whose responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
The conceptualization, design and implementation of firm’s new media strategy – a strategy which will be designed to increase the awareness of all the firm’s media brands as well as to drive traffic to its websites, among other things.

This strategy will be inclusive of the utilization of 3rd party social media sites and platforms – including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others.

Designing tools and methods in order to engage our audiences with rich content from all available content.

To broaden and grow the use of new media as a communications and marketing channel – a channel that will be designed to reach multiple constituencies.

Increasing awareness of owned media brands – TV and Radio – within relevant communities.

Increase traffic to the TV and Radio websites while maintaining and  enhancing relationships within the Arabic new media communities

Broadly speaking, the Director of New Media will be responsible for all new media/social media and marketing aspects for the TV and Radio brands. The right candidate must have demonstrated and extensive new and social media experience with an active history of participating in a wide variety of social media activities such as blogging, community development and management, social bookmarking and others. In addition the candidate must be able to think strategically, but be willing and able to roll up his or her sleeves to help implement the programs.
 

Essential Duties

  • Developing and implementing social media engagement strategies, policies and plans and integrating them with existing marketing campaigns and/or company strategic initiatives.
  • Recommending and deploying an appropriate mix of communications strategies and tactics including the use of blogs, social media networks, social bookmarking, discussion groups, wikis, widgets, forums and others with the end goal being of driving traffic to the TV and Radio sites
  • Setting targets and timelines for social media programs and key initiatives
  • Developing a set of best practices and recommended rules of engagement for the use of new media;
  • Using social media engagement to present brand attributes and ideals across multiple social networks and/or platforms in a way that is deemed consistent and appropriate
  • Interacting with websites and communities and making relevant posts when appropriate that include links to TV and Radio websites
  • Staying current with social media trends and incorporating improvements into strategy as appropriate with the end goal of improving user experience.
  • Formalizing a social media optimization (SMO) strategy and tactics that increase visibility and drive traffic to the TV and Radio websites
  • Acting as the organization’s Brand Steward as it relates to social media activities – thus ensuring that TV, Radio and Interactive sites are represented consistently and appropriately across the web and with the highest degree of professionalism.
  • Working hand-in-hand with New Media executive team, including the Director of Web Development and the Editorial Manager, in order to develop a social media strategy and best practices.
  • Managing all aspects of external online media presence, including presences on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace and other sites deemed relevant.
  • Performing regular market assessments and competitive analyses
  • Utilizing time effectively and productively.
  • Maintaining good attendance record and adhere to scheduled work hours
  • Staying on top of emerging technologies, social media tools and applications - including mobile marketing, and developing new programs and strategies accordingly
  • Providing metrics, dashboards, and ROI for TV and Radio participation in social media sites from the ground up.
  • Filling in for other social media roles and support as needed.
  • Keeping track of all activities and tracking their effectiveness and issuing reports on these items.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in either marketing, advertising, communications or business; An MBA is considered a plus
  • 3+ years of full-time experience in social media marketing, internet marketing or related field.
  • Solid track record of developing and executing comprehensive, cost-effective, and high-performing web strategies.
  • Experience working with a news-related website a plus;
  • Experience in content development
  • Active user of social media tools and networks; possess an excellent knowledge of social media and social networking sites, tools and applications
  • Extensive experience and expertise with SEO and SEM
  • In-depth knowledge of social media tools including social bookmarking, tagging, dynamics of XML and blog publishing
  • Proven track record in social media including blogging, blogger relations, pod casting or other means of evangelizing on behalf of a large enterprise
  • Successful track record in the development and growth of online communities for large enterprises
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Has an understanding of social media in relation to the broader media mix; understanding of the interplay between online/social media and traditional media
  • A strong knowledge of user-generated content, web video and viral marketing on the web
  • Is eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility
  • Brings to the position outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to lead cross-functional teams in achieving a unified goal
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop), CMS, Audio and Video editing software, RSS feeds;
  • Willingness to wear multiple hats and see a project through from concept to implementation
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English in both written and verbal forms
  • Ability to prioritize and make quick decisions
  • Must be able to demonstrate discretion, maturity and composure especially under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exercise self-discipline and time-management skills
  • Is energetic, intelligent, passionate, entrepreneurial, strategic, creative
  • Can accommodate flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours at a moments notice.
